World Mental Health Day: How Your GP Can Support Your Mental Health
Today is World Mental Health Day. If you've been feeling low, anxious, stressed or just not yourself, your GP is a good place to start.
What your GP can do
Your GP can:
- talk through what's going on and assess your needs
- discuss treatment options
- refer you to a psychologist or other mental health professional, where appropriate
Mental Health Treatment Plans
Under Medicare's Better Access initiative, eligible patients can receive up to 10 individual and up to 10 group therapy sessions per calendar year. Your GP refers you for an initial course of up to six sessions, then reviews how you're going before referring you for more. Psychologists set their own fees, so ask about any gap when you book.
Booking tip
Let reception know you'd like a mental health appointment so we can give you enough time.
